A great hobby for many people around the world, one that many find relaxing and soothing and an escape from the many stresses of everyday life is keeping an aquarium. I know, as I have one myself.

There are basically two types of aquariums, fresh water and marine or salt water aquariums. If you are an experienced aquarist, just getting started or are only at the stage of considering setting up an aquarium then you need good advice to maintain your aquarium in tip top condition and to avoid the mistakes that can cost you money and avoid the loss of your fish.

One website that has so much good information is AquaristsOnline where you can find great advice and articles covering all the techniques of setting up a new aquarium such as circulation and filtration systems. There is so much information here and sound advice such as the 5 cardinal Sins of a Marine Aquarist which is essential reading for present aquarists and excellent advice to potential aquarists.

Once your aquarium is up and running then you will be keen to start stocking it with fish and coral. This is dealt with in a free pdf which can be downloaded by visiting this page. There are also other articles outlining good fish and corals that are great for beginners to get started with. Getting started with ‘easy to care’ fish will avoid any disappointment in the early days of your new hobby.

For more experienced aquarists there wide ranging articles from care and maintenace through to coral propagation and advice for DIY aquarists who want a more hands on approach to constructing an aquarium and saving money at the same time.

This is an excellent website to visit for sound advice regarding salt water aquariums. I can see why it is such a fascinating hobby as I live on a tropical island and am less than one mile from the nearest coral. When ever I have the time and need to relax I like nothing better than getting out my snorkeling equipment and swimming with the beautiful fish and corals.
